Do I need 1 or 2 recovery attachment points?

Here are a few things to consider when deciding whether to install (1) or (2) recovery attachment points to the front of your 2011-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2).

What type of off-road driving do you plan to do?
For the occasional trail ride or beach drive, (1) recovery attachment point is probably sufficient. It will provide a strong and convenient way to recover your vehicle if you get stuck. If you plan to take your 2011-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2) on more challenging off-road adventures you may need (2) recovery attachment points for the following reasons:

Convenient Access
When off-road, you can often find yourself in a situation where (1) recovery attachment point is not easily accessible, (i.e. under mud, etc.).

Improved Recovery Angles
There are many recovery situations where an improved recovery angle is enormously beneficial. Having (2) recovery attachment points, one on each side of the vehicle often provides an improved angle for vehicle recovery. This is especially beneficial when stuck on tight trails, off-camber situations or when winching.

Reduced Strain
By using an equaliser strap, the force of recovery can be spread over both recovery attachment points. During difficult recoveries, where there is a lot of force being used, distributing the force over multiple points can be extremely beneficial for unit body vehicles like the 2011-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2).

Safety
When performing a snatch recovery, it’s ideal for safety reasons that the snatch strap is the weakest link in the recovery chain. If something is going to break and fly around, you’d prefer it was a snatch strap (with a damper) and not a metal part. This means if you’re using a 8000kg rated strap, snatching from (1) recovery attachment point would require a rating for that recovery attachment point exceeding 8000kg. By using (2) recovery attachment points and an equaliser strap (of sufficient length), the effective rating for a straight line pull would be ((4500kg * 2) * 0.9) or 8100kg.

If you’re only enjoying the occasional trail ride, (1) recovery attachment will probably be sufficient. If you’re looking to be a bit more adventurous with your 2011-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2) there are many benefits to having (2) recovery attachment points.
