The DT Ram 1500 Platform has quite a few significant differences to its predecessor the DS Classic. The front end of the DT requires a more advanced and bigger volume shock when adding weight up front like a Bar or winch (or both) and to dampen this added weight successfully you need “Big Bore” Volume. the larger shock piston, valving and oil capacity caters for this in the “Overland” Series exclusive to MP. Bilstein USA have perfected a recipe that we find matches the front end of this vehicle for both Petrol and Diesel variants. This kit can come with a single mono tube rear shock or the remote res (fixed res) canister version – pls select drop down box. (we recommend the remote res for sure!)
The Bilstein Kit comes with a specific spring rate and has 9 ring grooves cut into the body of the large diameter shock which allows you to “trim” the height of the front end to suit your setup. We recommend a 2.5′ max height setting because after that you start to run out of down travel or ‘droop’ as its know as. We include our strut top plates with each kit and we can also completely pre build these struts for you with the addition of new strut top bearing caps (see drop down box menu). This way you can remove and change the strut out quite easily at home with the right tools. Also one thing to be aware of, there is good reason to add the pre made struts to your order as we are seeing a growing number of these vehicles coming in for suspension that have the top threaded shock shaft and nut rusted together as they’ve already clocked some miles up in the elements. Nothing worse that wrenching on your truck to install new gear on the weekend to find out you need something else to make it happen!
This kit would have to be hands down the most “plush” riding, controlled suspension kit available for the DT and is the no# one choice for our DT and DS Bushy customers!
